Sound Premier Qualify for the Bronze Bracket of the Premier Volleyball League Championship After Two Close Losses.


The performances of the Sound Premier Volleyball Team have steadily improved throughout the Premier Volleyball League Championship tournament and today they treated fans to two exciting matches against the Pioneer Mayhem and Team Great Lakes.  The Sound came out on the losing end of both matches, but performed at their highest level so far.

The team struggled through an 8am match against the #4 seed Pioneer Mayhem losing 0-3 with two close set loses in set two and three.  Sara bendorf had no problem waking up for the early match.  She put up 10 kills and Lindsey Denman contributed six more.  Angie Alvord scored eight points in the early morning match with four kills, two blocks and two aces.  The Mayhem went on to qualify for the Gold bracket and will be among the four best teams in the tournament.

Sound Premier came out strong against Team Great Lakes winning the first set 30-28.  Angie Alvord scored 14 points for the Sound on a team leading eight kills, four blocks and two aces.  The Sound nearly pulled off the upset, but the fast tempo offense of Great Lakes was just a touch too strong.  Katie Silliman, Whitney Buck, Emily Jepsen and Jessica Vanzant all had a hand in three blocks.  The team tallied five total aces.

Next up for the Sound is an 8am Eastern time match against the Heart of America Havoc on court 4.  The match will be streamed live through usavlive.org.

Sound Premier Qualify for Second Round of the Championship Bracket at the Premier Volleyball League Championship


The Sound Premier Volleyball Team recovered from a difficult first day at the Premier Volleyball League National Championship to earn a spot in the second round of championship bracket pool play.  The team won against the Western Empire squad to start the day 3-1 and lost a wild match to the Badger Blizzard 1-3 which was enough to finish fourth in pool one and advance to the next round.

The Sound Premier offense finally found its tempo against Western Empire with four players scoring double digit kill totals.  Jessica Vanzant paced the offense with 14 kills.  Sara Bendorf had 12 and Katie Silliman and Marlayna Geary both tallied 10 kills.  Angie Alvord came up with nine kills three blocks and four aces.

After earning their first win of the tournament, the Sound played a wild match against the Badger Blizzard who are having a fantastic first season in the Premier Volleyball League.  Badger won the first set, before the Sound Premier service game heated up and allowed them to win the second match easily.  Through the match the Sound tallied 14 aces, led by four aces by Whitney Buck and three by Alvord.  Geary had eight kills and Silliman had three blocks.  Emily Jepsen provided a spark off the bench with four kills and for the second day of the tournament every player on the Sound Premier Team saw playing time.

The Sound will face the Pioneer Mayhem at 8am Eastern time Monday morning in the first match of the three team pool.  At 1pm Eastern time, the Sound will play against Team Great Lakes.  The winner of the three team pool will be assured a finish in the top four of the tournament.

The Sound Premier Volleyball Team Add 12 Players to Their 2013 Roster


The Sound Premier Volleyball Team signed 12 players to their 2013 roster on Thursday.  The players represent the best women’s volleyball talent in the Puget Sound Region and will compete in showcase and outreach matches throughout the Puget Sound Region kicking off February 22 at Sunrise Courts in Puyallup.

Jennifer Baklenko,  Right Side
The captain of the 2012 Sound Premier Volleyball Team is returning for the 2013 season.  Her experience includes the University of San Diego, the United States Pro Volleyball League and more.  She is a product of Club West in Southern California and a top ranked beach player with the Alki Volleyball Association. 

Carolyn Farny,  Right Side

A 6’1” right side hitter who played at the University of Washington is a newcomer to the Sound Premier Volleyball Team for 2013.  The Fort Wayne, Indiana native played both volleyball and basketball through her high school years at Concordia Luthern High School. 

Jessica Hansen,  Libero

The 2006 Big Sky Conference MVP at Portland State University played her junior club volleyball for Kent Juniors and Puget Sound Volleyball Academy.  She was named the Portland State University Female Athlete of the year and coaches for the Puget Sound Volleyball Academy. 

Jessica Vanzant,  Right Side

Vanzant tallied 1,075 kills in her four year collegiate career at Portland State University.  She also inspired her brother Matt to play volleyball at the University of Hawaii.  She is currently a coach for the Puget Sound Volleyball Academy. 

Emily Jepsen,  Middle

Was the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year her junior year at Western Washington University.  Among WWU’s top ten for career blocks and attack percentage.  She was a four year starter at Kamiakin High School.
Sarah Risser,  Outside Hitter
Risser was a four year letter winner from Seattle Pacific University and earned selection to the AVCA West Region All-Tournament Team her senior season.   As a junior at SPU she tallied over 300 kills and 300 digs.  She is a native of Santa Barbara, California and attended Dos Pueblos High School.  

Deviny Mo,  Outside Hitter
Is an accomplished beach volleyball player in the Puget Sound Region.  She played four years of Club Volleyball at the University of Washington and is still their Women’s Club Volleyball Coach.  Her junior club experience was with the Washington Volleyball Academy and Newport High School.  

Lindsey Wodrich,  Outside Hitter
Wodrich was the Seattle Pacific University team MVP her junior year and shared the award with Sound Premier Volleyball Team Teammate Anna Herold her senior season.  She was also named to the All Great Northwest Athletic Conference First team in both of those seasons.  A native of Richland, Washington, she graduated from Richland High School.  

Angie Alvord,  Middle
Alvord earned AVCA First Team All-American and Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors her senior year at Western Washington University.  She was team captain for both the volleyball and basketball teams at Meridian High School.  

Sara Bendorf,  Outside Hitter
Bendorf played club volleyball for the Puget Sound Volleyball Academy and for Northwest University and Jacksonville University.  At Northwest, she was the Cascadia Conference “Freshman of the Year.”  She was a four year starter at White River High School in Tacoma.  

Lindsey Denman,  Outside Hitter
Denmen earned an AVCA Division 3 All-American honor her junior year at the University of Puget Sound.  She also featured in the AVP Junior Beach Tour and was a stand-out at Inglemoor High School.  Her club roots go back to the Washington Volleyball Academy where she is still a coach today.  

Whitney Buck,  Setter
Buck’s collegiate volleyball career starting at Whatcom Community College and Concluded at Central Washington University.  She played setter and right side at North Central High School in Spokane, WA.
